The Volta Region is where Ghanaians go when they want quiet. Wli Falls is the tallest waterfall in West Africa and an easy walk from the village; Mount Afadja is a steady two-hour climb with a view over the Togo border.
Trips here are usually three to four days from Accra, staying in Ho or at a lakeside lodge near Akosombo. Roads are good most of the way and we use 4x4s for the last stretches into the hill villages.
Weaving villages around Kpetoe are worth a stop — kente is still made on narrow looms by hand, and the workshops welcome visitors.
